SSC CGL
Staff Selection Commission (SSC) (Hindi: कर्मचारीचयनआयोग) is a Government organization that recruits staff for various posts in the various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India and in Subordinate Offices.
SSC broadly conducts two types of examinations.
- SSC CGL exam
- SSC Combined Matric Level Examination i.e. SSC 10+2
Overview
The Examination will be conducted in three tiers as indicated below:
Tier-I – Written Preliminary Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type) : The written exam will consist of objective type papers of 2 hours for all and 2 hours 40 mins for visually handicapped.

Questions will be of Objective Type Multiple Choice, set in both Hindi and English in respect of Parts A, B and C. There will be negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Tier-I.
Tier-II – Written Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type) : Tier II exam is conducted over a period of two days.The written exam will consist of objective type papers of 2 hours for all and 2 hours 40 mins for visually handicapped.

NOTE: Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension are compulsory for all posts. Statistics is for those who are appearing in Statistical Investigator Gr.II and Compiler. General Studies is only for those candidates who apply for the post of Assistant Audit Officer. In Tier-II, there will be negative marking of 0.25 marks in English Language and Comprehension and 0.50 marks in Quantitative Aptitude and Statistics for each wrong answer.
Tier-III – Personality Test cum Interview / Computer Proficiency Test / Skill Test (wherever applicable) / Document Verification : Candidates who obtain qualifying marks in the Written Examination prescribed by the Commission will only be called for the Skill Test. The Commission will fix the qualifying standards in the skill test for different categories of candidates. The candidates need to have data entry speed of 8000 key depressions per hour. The matter will have to be transcribed on computer only.
Eligibility
- Age: (As on 1st August 2016)
- For post of Sub Inspector in Central Bureau of Narcotics- 18 to 25.
- For posts of Assistant in Central Vigilance Commission/ Ministry of Railway/ Ministry of External Affairs/ AFHQ/ Other Ministries/Departments/ Organisations; Inspector of Income Tax/ Central Excise/ Preventive Officer/ Examine/ Posts/ Divisional Accountant/ Central Bureau of Narcotics; Auditor in Offices under C&AG/ Offices under CGDA/ Offices under CGA & others; Accountant/ Junior Accountant in Offices under C&AG/ Offices under CGA & others; Senior Secretariat Assistant/ Tax Assistant in CBDT – 18 to 27.
- Assistant Section Officer (Central Secretariat Service) – 20 to 30.
- Assistant in Intelligence Bureau – 21 to 27.
- Assistant Enforcement Officer(Directorate of Enforcement, Department of Revenue)/ Assistant Audit Officer (Indian Audit & Accounts Department under CAG ) – upto 30 years.
- Statistical Investigator Gr.II – Upto 32 years.
- Educational Qualification: (As on 1st August 2016)
- For Compiler: Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University with Economics or Statistics or Mathematics as compulsory or elective subject.
- For Statistical Investigator Grade –II: Bachelor’s Degree in any subject from recognized university or Institute with at least 60% in Mathematics at the 12th Standard level: OR Bachelor’s degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level.
- All other Posts: Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or equivalent.
- For post of Assistant Section Officer (CSS) - Candidates need to have computer proficiency test qualification.
- Assistant Audit Officer: a) Essential Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or Institute b) Desirable Qualifications for the Post of Assistant Audit Officer: Chartered Accountant or cost & Management Accountant or Company Secretary or Masters in Commerce or Masters in Business Studies or Masters in Business Administration (Finance) or Masters in Business Economics.
